In honor of Mother’s Day, we honor the worst fictional mother/person on television.
Do you even watch the show?
Clearly you don’t because almost every Cersei scene has to mention her children, or show them. Or show how much she cares about them.
Because Cersei lives for her children. They -and Jaime- are the only things she cares about in life. Let me analyse some scenes from the show, because you either don’t watch it, or watch it for the sex.
Season 1, Episode 2: Cersei visits Catelyn Stark in Bran’s bedroom and saw Catelyn praying for Bran. Cersei retells the story of the child she had with Robert Baratheon who died in infancy.
Cersei nearly cries while retelling the story, you know why? Because she loved the baby. Even though she despised his father and the fact that he was part-Robert. She mentioned how distressed she was when her baby who’s about one day old died. She didn’t even know what he’d grow to be, and yet loved him nonetheless.
Season 1, Episode 7: After Robert Baratheon dies, Ned Stark plans to oust Joffrey and put Stannis Baratheon on the Iron Throne. Cersei personally organises Ned’s arrest to make sure Joffrey is safe and not in any trouble or harm.
Cersei’s unconditional love for Joffrey is actually so obvious you’d have to be blind not to see it. She protected him against Ned’s failed coup, she forced Ser Barristan to break his Kingsguard vow so she can have Sandor Clegane on the Kingsguard. Clegane was Joffrey’s personal bodyguard and would’ve died protecting him. (Season 1 Episode 8).
In Season 2 Episode 1, when she slaps Joffrey because he mentioned Robert’s bastards, Joffrey threatened to have Cersei’s hands cut off if she laid a hand on him again. She didn’t love him any less. In Episode 2 we learn that Joffrey ordered the killing of Robert’s bastards, in the books, it is Cersei who orders it to consolidate Joffrey’s claim to the Iron Throne. She will kill to make sure Joffrey stays on the Iron Throne safe and unharmed.
During the Battle of Blackwater in Episode 9, Cersei calls Joffrey from the battlefield so that he wouldn’t be hurt. That just speaks for itself, I really cannot add anything to explain how this is a sign of absolute motherly devotion to her son.
In Season 3 Episode 3, when Margaery urges Joffrey to see the crowds outside the Sept of Baelor, Cersei panicks, fearing for Joffrey’s life, because that same crowd attacked them last season. She runs towards Joffrey, and even though nothing happens to him, an obvious sign of terror is still present in her eyes.
Throughout the season so far, Cersei’s entire plot has been protecting Joffrey from Margaery, who’s motives we don’t know yet. Cersei fears Margaery has plans to use Joffrey as a pawn and therefore hurt him if necessary. She is planning to throw away her father’s work with the Tyrells and everything the Tyrells did to the Iron Throne to make sure Joffrey is safe.
I literally cannot emphasise her love for Joffrey anymore.
Let’s go on to her other children, Myrcella and Tommen.
In Season 2 Episode 3, when Tyrion sells Myrcella to the Dornish, Cersei is outraged and she is crying because she doesn’t want Myrcella to go through the same thing she went through. Because she loves Myrcella, her “only daughter.”
As for Tommen, in the Battle of Blackwater, she almost poisoned him, rather than have Stannis keep him hostage or possibly execute him. Because if Tommen was going to die she would rather he die by her own hands than by the enemy’s.
I can go on, but that’d involve spoilers beyond the show.
But please, before you make such brash and stupid and obviously false points, Watch the fucking show.
watched the show and read all of the books, but thank you so much for your explanation.
